PAY IT FORWARD
Have you guys ever seen that movie? Pay it Forward? Where the kid does nice things for others, and it goes on and on?
Have you ever done that? I mean, just done a random act of kindness for someone, whether you knew the person or not? My pastor, like, a year ago, told us of a story of a random act of kindness done for him. He was at a restaurant, eating, talking with whoever he was with. Well, it came time to pay the bill and the waiter told him his bill had been taken care of already.
My pastor asked by whom but the waiter didn’t say. It was just a random act of kindness done by someone. Well, my pastor challenged us all to do that (not the restaurant thing exactly, but just something) so Charlie (that’s my hubby) and I tried it.
We chose the restaurant thing. We saw a guy eating alone at a restaurant and it was coming time for him to pay, I stole away from our table and pulled the man’s waiter aside and paid for his meal. I asked him not to say anything. So, Charlie and I watched from afar and saw the pleasant, yet confused, look on the stranger’s face. I thought my heart was going to burst out from my chest it was so rewarding.
But what’s even more rewarding is that the waiter asked why on earth did we do that? So, we got to share with the waiter a little bit about our faith and the whole random act of kindness thing.
Have you guys ever done anything like that? Tell me about it, I’d love to hear it. If not, I encourage you to try something, whether it’s the restaurant thing, or something else.

One of the few movies I cried watching. Very good stuff.
I do little things every now and then — let people cut in front of me while driving or while waiting in the check out. It’s always amazing how much better it feels than trying to be number one all the time.

I’ve never done anything so randomly kind as you’ve mentioned here. Not that I can remember anyway. I will have to look for opportunities. As for letting people cut me off — I live in Philly, lol, you don’t have much of a choice. Swerve out of thie way or get totaled.
Kat, that movie made me cry as well. The driving one…yeah, that’s a hard one for me to do. I’d rather pay for someone’s meal. JUST KIDDING. Seriously, it does feel pretty good, huh? When you do something little, unexpected…it’s awesome.

We also blessed someone once in a drive through at Dairy Queen…paid for the guys order behind us in line…truly enjoyable to do things like that.
I did this only once, but I want to do it again–I bought a carnation as part of my grocery order and gave it to the Salvation Army “kettle” person standing outside the entrance to the store at Christmastime, just to say “Thank you for doing this.” Times I’ve been wanting to do it in recent years, though, by the time I get out of the store the person is gone!
I’ll keep trying, though. It was cool to see the look on her face.

Hi Sheri, What a cool idea. Actually, I’ve been the on the receiving end of several random acts of kindness recently. Someone on the ACFW loop wrote to say my words had blessed her and offered to design my one sheet. Needless to say–I walked on air for a whole day! She is a graphic designer and her work made my puny efforts look fabulous!
I personally try to do small things. A couple of times, when an elderly aunt needed groceries and asked me to bring her some cat food –I’d go through the store and buy two carts of groceries, goodies and a couple of her favorite magazines. It sure was a thrill to have her come out to the car for her ‘bag’ of cat food and see about ten bags of groceries.
The world would be a much better place if we all lived like this.
